COIL
Collaborative Online International Learning
Learning and teaching together and internationally
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects have been taking place at Ruhr West University since 2020. COIL projects are courses created and held together with one or more foreign partner universities. The collaboration takes place either exclusively online or in blended-learning format, i.e. with short reciprocal visits.
COIL projects provide many students with a personal international experience and simulate the globalized professional world. In this way, they also reach students who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to spend an entire semester abroad. COIL projects also promote skills in the use of digital tools and media, foreign language skills and, of course, intercultural skills.
From 2020 to 2022, COIL was funded by the DAAD with the HRW Goes COIL project. The follow-up project COILintensify has been running since 2023.

Collaborative Online International Learning projects are teaching projects that are carried out virtually together with one or more international partner universities.
In the blended-learning format, students get to know each other in person at the beginning and end of their project by visiting each other's university locations. During the lectures or seminars, they work together on their assignments in internationally mixed and virtually networked teams.
