Positive Computing

What is Positive Computing?

Positive Computing involves the design, implementation, and evaluation of application systems and their influences, with the objective of improving people's quality of life and well-being and supporting them in developing their potential. Within the framework of the research focus, technological solutions are to be developed in an inter- and transdisciplinary approach with continuous consideration of human needs – especially those of older people and disadvantaged groups, societal requirements, and social issues.

The Institute of Computer Science

The research focus on Positive Computing establishes a new field of research in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The institute of the same name was funded from 2016 to 2022 by the FH-Kompetenz funding competition of the state of NRW with a sum of 1,000,000 euros. During this time, the interdisciplinary, cross-departmental institute has consolidated its position and acquired numerous other research projects.

The coordinator is Prof. Dr. Stefan Geisler from the HRW Bottrop Institute of Computer Science.
