Learning center upgrade

The upgrade learning center aims to offer HRW students more than just traditional tutorials. It is not just a place of learning, but a permanent institution with various offers relating to the basic modules of all degree programs. The focus is on professional support and the promotion of sustainable self-help skills.
The learning center is located in building 01 on the 4th floor.
Offers of the learning center
The upgrade learning center offers tutorials for the basic courses in mathematics and physics/natural sciences as well as mechanics.
In the voluntary tutorials there are usually tasks on the current lecture material, which can be worked on independently with assistance. The solutions are then discussed in detail. Of course, further questions about the lecture material are also answered. Some tutorials are also designed as open tutorials.
In addition to course-specific tutorials accompanying lectures, there are also topic specials/intensive tutorials, revision tutorials and exam preparation tutorials.
Information on the individual tutorials will be announced in the corresponding courses.
If you have any organizational questions about the courses, you can contact us by email at lernzentrum@hs-ruhrwest.de.
The upgrade learning center provides study areas on the 4th floor of building 01 (Mülheim campus). There is also a HelpDesk in room 01.04.007, where students can come with any questions about the material from the basic courses in mathematics, physics/science, electrical engineering and mechanics. Assistance is also available for the semester homework, whereby the focus here is explicitly on helping students to help themselves and not on providing ready-made solutions. We also provide a selection of specialist literature and other exercises.
At Campus Bottrop, the HelpDesk is located in room 02.112 or the adjacent study area.
In addition to face-to-face consultation hours at the HelpDesk, there are also digital consultation hours.
All information about our HelpDesk offer (in particular the exact consultation hours, subjects offered and links for the digital consultation hours) can be found by enrolled students in the corresponding Moodle room under this link (self-enrollment).
For organizational questions, you can reach us by e-mail at lernzentrum@hs-ruhrwest.de.
The HelpDesk Academic German provides advice and feedback on linguistic, stylistic, formal and structural aspects of German as an academic language. The team at the Center for Competence Development (ZfK) takes care of written texts such as internship and project reports or term papers and theses as well as important oral forms of communication during studies such as presentations.
The Abitorial is a free offer for supplementary exam preparation, but is not a classic tutoring service. In our eight-week Abitorial, the team of the upgrade learning center, consisting of academic university staff and students from higher semesters, will evaluate the learning needs together with the participants and then discuss the specified content in the individual 90-minute appointments. During these eight weeks, the participants of the Abitorial can use the learning center as a place to learn and get a taste of authentic university life. A helpdesk is also available as an additional point of contact for technical questions.
